Hofgarðar

Hofgarðar is the name of a farm located close to where the Guesthouse Hof with its different houses is standing today.

In the beginning of year 1930 there was a man called Jón G. Sigurðsson, father of the poet Margrét Jónsdottir, living at the former farm located at the same spot. Though, when he first arrived to the farm - the surrounding land was called Syðri-Garðar and contained a few small farms called Akri Garðarbrekka and Háigarður.

The two farms Hof and Hofskot were gone since a few years back due to the heavy sandstorms.

Later on, Jón named his farm Hofgarðar, which means "Ocean Valley" and his son Bragi used the name Hoftún for his farm that had its location where Háigarður once was.
